Dear Fam
Thank you SO MUCH for answering the questions in last month’s poll. I learnt a lot — including the lesson that I should be doing regular polls!
I’m sharing the results here for those interested.
But first…
NEWS
My new direct sales Shopify store is almost ready for launch.
It’s live at the moment, but I’m still ironing out the kinks before I introduce you. It’s important to me that you will have a friendly, easy, absolutely seamless experience, so we are testing the heck out of it.
Once it’s ready, shall we have a party? I feel a party is long overdue.
Polls are awesome.
NEWS ON WRITING AND BOOKS
I’m working hard on promoting the Cursebreaker box set. It seems to be gaining momentum on Amazon, so I’m doing what I can to support the sales. Our best day so far has been 27,000 page reads in 24 hours, which made me do a little jig in the kitchen.
The reviews are trickling in, and we’re close to 50 now.
(To put this into perspective, the 2019 Blood Magic box set has 3,680 reviews. On its best day, it had 60,000 page reads).
DID YOU KNOW that reading a book through Kindle Unlimited pays authors *much* better than if you buy the book at a low price? Especially if it’s a huge box set like Cursebreaker. If you’re a KU member, it’s another way you can support authors at no cost to you. I’ll get off my soap box now.
STICKY FINGERS
Apart from the urban fantasy books above, I have taken the rest of my books out of KU in order to sell them in my direct store (Amazon insists on exclusivity for KU titles). So you’ll still find them on the Zon, but not in the Kindle Unlimited program. If Amazon ever lifts that requirement, I’ll pop them straight back in. The upside to this is that they are all now available from all the retailers — Apple, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, etc., which is a more inclusive way of doing business, and I hope it allows this special community to grow.
As a way of enticing new readers, I have made Sticky Fingers 1 free for the rest of the year. I’m sure that you’ve already got it, but if not, feel free to grab it from your favourite retailer.
And please share the link with anyone you think will enjoy dark short stories.

POLL RESULTS
Here are the results, if you’re interested in taking a look.

So the TL;DR goes like this:
My reader fam is open to buying direct, but are (understandably) cautious.
eBooks first.
Thriller / Suspense would be a good option for a new JT Lawrence book.
[I love psychological thrillers, so this is exciting.]
I’ll send a new poll soon with follow-up questions, but feel free to leave a comment below.
I also wanted to give a heartfelt thank you for those readers who opted for a paid subscription here on Substack or over on Patreon. I never take this kind of support for granted (honestly, I’m always a bit taken aback when it happens) and I really appreciate the support. I hope I can make it worth your while!
Stay safe my fellow humans. Here is a picture of Ali dressed as Wednesday.
